Key points for tax year 2026-27

  • The Income-tax Act, 2025 applies to payments made on or after 1 April 2026. Non-salary TDS is in Section 393 (tables for residents, non-residents and specified payments); salary TDS is Section 392 and TCS is Section 394.
  • The Finance Act 2026 did not change TDS rates or thresholds; the figures set by the Finance Act 2025 continue.
  • Without PAN, TDS is generally 20% (or the rate above, if higher); 5% for purchase of goods.
  • Deposit by the 7th of the following month (March: 30 April). Quarterly statements are due 31 July, 31 October, 31 January and 31 May.
  • Where GST is shown separately on the invoice, TDS is generally on the value excluding GST.
  • Payments to non-residents fall under Section 393(2) at rates in force or treaty rates; not covered here.
